Mae's arrival at Schiphol. First order of business; boterham met appelstroop! "Sankt Annæ Gade" (saint anne street) in the neighbourhood of Christianshavn where the apartment we rented was located. It was a long drive to Copenhagen from the Netherlands, so our first meal was pizza from Tino's, which went down very well!

In a row of ordinary looking houses, there was this nice wood-framed one. The old stock exchange, with the dragon-tail spire roof on the tower.

Nyhavn is quite busy with tour boats. Waiting for the tour boat to leave from Nyhavn.
img_0640.jpg img_0642.jpg
Picturesque houses along the harbor. Out of Nyhavn.
img_0644.jpg img_0647.jpg
The opera house. One of the several ferries crossing the harbor.
img_0653.jpg img_0654.jpg
The little mermaid, from a slightly different angle. The quay where the Danish royal family boards their yacht, IIRC.

Old warehouses converted to apartments. An interesting houseboat.

An old ferry converted to a houseboat. Another warehouse conversion. Looks nice.

A view of the apartment we stayed in from the canal. Again, but a better composition.
img_0668.jpg img_0669.jpg
Some old lightships converted to houseboats. The one on the right still had the light on top. An old storehouse.
img_0670.jpg img_0671.jpg
The old lightship up close. Coming up on the marble bridge.
img_0672.jpg img_0673.jpg
Interesting detail on the marble bridge. Maike was the only one who could stand up while we were crossing under that bridge.

Copenhagen is nicknamed the city of green copper roofs. Someone really liked those elephants!
img_0678.jpg img_0679.jpg
The same churchtower, but now from a different angle. The equistarian statue of Axel Absalon, warrior bishop of Lund.
img_0683.jpg img_0684.jpg
Vor frelens kirke (our savoir's church). We're going to climb the tower later. Music practice.
img_0691.jpg img_0692.jpg
A view of the canal from our apartment. Seeing the elephant.
img_0693.jpg img_0694.jpg
I kind of liked this elephant. Family portrait before climbing the tower.

Looking towards a power plant, I think. That is the sphere on top.
img_0707.jpg img_0708.jpg
That's about as high as I could reach. Going down again.

A view from the balcony Looking at our temporary residence.
img_0711.jpg img_0713.jpg
Enjoying the view. Yes, it's big. And the staircase inside is very narrow in places.
img_0714.jpg img_0715.jpg
And after the descent, slightly the worse for wear. But still smiling. :-)

Mae and Meike waiting to board the train to the airport. They'll be home in a couple or hours, while we still have around ten hours of driving ahead of us. Crossing the bridges over the Storebælt.
