Roland's spam blocking page |
|
Long ago I reached a point where the amount of unsolicited commercial (spam) and virus e-mail exceeded the regular e-mail messages I get.
That’s why I’ve implemented mail filtering.
Since then I have deployed bogofilter to filter my e-mail. This has proven
to give fewer false positives than my previous home-grown procmail based
solution. I have configured bogofilter to categorize mail as either regular,
unsure or spam. Mails in the unsure mailbox will be evaluated by me and
used to further train bogofilter.
Other bogofilter users can mail me if they would like a copy of my
wordlist.db file.
After having trained bogofilter for some time, it is now filing spam automatically and very accurately. I have two archives with each a thousand spam e-mails that have been used to train bogofilter.
If you send me HTML formatted mail, the chances of getting caught in my spamfilter increase, because spammers use HTML mail a lot. So if you can’t reach me, please try sending your mail as plain text. (Instructions for doing so with outlook express and outlook are available.)
Both of these programs have significant security issues. Over the years they have proven to be an easy conduit for computer viruses.
