Nikon D70s tips and tricks

Some tips on how I use my D70s

Converting RAW images

The following command is used to convert raw NEF images to something readable.

dcraw -T -6 -W *.NEF

This preserves the 16-bit color depth, but yields larger files, of course.

The following command uses 8-bit output, but preserves the crucial camera white balance.

dcraw -T -W *.NEF

Image settings

Based on the info from kenrockwell.com, I switched back to using JPEG images with large image size (“L”) and normal compression (“NORM”).

I set a custom image optimization with saturation set to “+” and color mode set to “IIIa”.
